Tesla's chief designer has revealed in an interview that the Model E will most likely be unveiled in Detroit in 2015
"When can we see the much-anticipated midsize sedan for the first time? Probably at the show in Detroit beginning in 2015."

Thats a sedan?

That's the model X SUV which is the next new car. The model E will be the next next new car.

It's a Focus sedan!

Looking forward to it! I'm expecting a 5 door hatch like the Model S and most likely some unique styling. The rear of the car probably won't be as sleek as the Model S if they want decent rear headroom.

I think that what's pictured is the upcoming Model X, which is kind of confusing.

Electric Jellybean!

Pictured is the Model X (an SUV), not the Model E (which has not been unveiled yet).

The picture appears to be the Model X, the crossover. I don't think there's been any images released of the Model E, an affordable sedan

People, People, The crossover pictured is the Model X. NOT the Model E.
/just thought I'd clear that up.

How is that amorphous blob a sedan? While he may wow on technology, He is gonna give up the ghost on the design if he doesnt figure how to get form to accentuate function, not simply follow it. When the newness of the electric car fades, new and conquest sales will be forged on style as much as anything.

I've added a line about that. I wasn't expecting FP.

Writing a story about the Model E and using a picture of the model X? Brilliant journalism! A+!!!

Ohhhhh it could be sleek:

I'm totally guessing here, but I would bet that's it's a replacement for the Tesla Roadster, which will be more similar to the Model S and Model X range. The Model S makes the Roadster look like a kit car in terms of design and interior quality.

Model E is the 3-Series fighter

Model E ? E for electricity?
HOLY CRAP PEOPLE IT'S GONNA BE ELECTRIC

I too would expect it to carry a 5-door hatch profile, just about 75-80% the size of the Model S and with a subsequently smaller platform and the lack of the third row option. I suspect it will be pretty awesome since the Model S is a very impressive drive.

Yeah. That may limit interest in it. No one is buying electric.

Oh God, the want.

Here's hoping Detroit has a good sprinkler system!

That could be enough to warrant an update of the Jalopmeter, so that checking its power plant as "Electric" would ask if your car is a Tesla Model E.

That could be pretty cool, to say the least.

They're on a role with Jag letters. Model S Type, Model X Type, Model E Type. Coincidence they look Jagish too? I smell a branding conspiracy.
